Out on ILK MUSIC in Summer 2022
As sound explorer my music stems from the curiosity of moving beyond the fixed pitches of western tuning and into a sound continuum of de-colonized sound possibilities. I ask questions like: can an acoustic grand piano be re-contextualized by adjusting its fixed pitches and borrowing from multicultural microtonal musical tuning traditions? Can magnets and metallic preparations placed inside the piano evoke timbral affects from say Balinese Gamelan, Indian classical or Indigenous music making? And how can this instrument merge with spatialization, technology and post- production to create embodied experiences for audiences?

For the rhythmically interested musicians out there – Been working on nonuplet (9 microbreats in the time of one pulse) derived polyrhythms lately. Here’s a new piece that uses the polyrhythm 9:7 – implying nonuplet subdivision grouped in 7. #rhythm #polyrhythm #nine #newmusic #composition #piano #seven
